How Low Can You Go 6/26/2006

Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Coralville has been a disappointment to me. As a do it yourselfer I was very excited when the prospects of a new Lowe's store was announced. This would mean I would no longer have to drive across town to Menard's for my lumber/ paint/hardware needs. I have been to Lowes for various things and find that the staff has just as hard a time finding a particular item as I do, They are not always knowledgeable about products. The service is not always courteous. Examples. I was looking for a certain type of screws and asked a man in hardware if he could help me find them. He looked all through the hardware section( which I had already done), and said they might be in the electrical area. Just left me to look some more. I asked for advice about the use of radiator punched metal for a light fixture cover and got no helpful advice. I purchased said item at Lenoch and Cilek after getting the answer I was looking for. I needed a board cut for a new stair when I was having my new carpeting laid, a 2x12 and was told in a cranky manner that they would have to charge me. I said I expected to pay for that service and he left me standing while he went off to talk to another customer instead of taking care of my request. I was there first and the other customer was a man. I signed up for a workshop on closet organizers and wasted over an hour there as the person conducting the workshop was simply reading from a computer print out which all of us at the workshop agreed we could have done at home. He was not trained in any way to answer the questions we had for him. Don't get me wrong, there are also some good people working there but I've been disapponted in service and pricing. They do not always have the lowest price. more
