My only experience, as of this writing, with CertainTeed http://www.certainteed.com/ is that the shingles that were originally on my house (built in 1996) were from them.
When I noticed a lot of granules at the bottom of my down spouts last fall (2005), I happened to examine the roof and saw a LOT of curling and decaying shingles. I contacted the Realtor who sold us the house, the (retired) builder, the local lumber yard, and friends and family to find out what shingles I had and what I could do about it. My insurance man said that unless I could tie the shingle's condition to a hail storm or something, they really couldn't do anything. I found out that the shingles were CertainTeed and proceed to search their web site for warranty information. This wasn't the easiest link to find on their web site http://www.certainteed.com/CertainTeed/Homeowner/Homeowner/Roofing/Warranty/ClaimProcessingDetailPage.htm .
So, after getting the Certificate of Occupancy from the city and packaging up 2 sample shingles to ship to CertainTeed for them to test, I am in a 2 week holding pattern while I wait to see what kind of pro-rated bone they plan to throw at me. Meanwhile, I am also keeping an eye on the Class Action Lawsuit http://www.youhaverights.info/PracticeAreas/CertainTeed-Class-Action-Lawsuit.php that is pending as well before I sign any papers from CertainTeed.
