Located about an hour north of SF, Prarie Sun is the recording studio of choice of none other than local growler, Tom Waits. They've got the same sound board here that was used on the Who's Quadrophenia, which is sorta meaningless, but still cool to know. What really matters is doing your recording out of the city, on a farm with chickens running around. Your band can shack up in their barn overnight and work with their talented and experienced engineers. There's all sorts of rooms – like a big barn with crazy reverb, or the "bone room" which is where Waits does all his vocals and bangs on the old water heater. The place lacks not for character.
