The Only Station for Jazz in Chicago 4/26/2006

With the recent changes to WBEZ, the Chicago Public Radio station, removing their jazz programming, your choice for real jazz music in the city of Chicago has been reduced to one. Fortunately, that one station does a pretty good job. WDCB is a at 90.9 FM on your radio dial. It is a public radio station out of Glen Elleyn Illinois and run by the College of DuPage. The coverage downtown might be sporadic, but I manage to get it on my drive from Hanover Park to Chicago clearly. They play a great mix of traditional, vocal and new jazz. They mix up the shows throughout the day since some shows are run by students so be careful. I would not mind at all if the station went all jazz once the changes at WBEZ take effect. Still, due to its public nature it may be limited. The morning show is exceptional with great music all morning long. So, if you are in Chicago and wondering where to go for your jazz fix or planning on visiting Chicago for some great jazz, make sure you check out WDCB 90.9 FM. more
