It's worth the drive all the way out to Kane County to see the Cougars play. My first minor league experience was with the Schaumburg Flyers, but it was with the Cougars that I first got season tickets.
Yes, the drive is long and, yes, the entire place is a bowl dug into the ground right next to a giant landfill. None of this matters once you get inside. The playing is outstanding for the minor leagues and this team has won more than a couple of championships since its creation.
The one drawback I can find is that the team is now an Oakland As affiliate these days which, as a Sox fan, pains me. However, the fact that the team has a kind of Jumbo-tron, has pretty darn good food and the caliber of play is a notch above of the independent leagues in the area, well you just can't beat it.
There are great and wide lawn seats available. There's a picnic area and plenty of things to keep the kids occupied. There are plenty of games between innings too just to make sure no one gets too restless. The price is extremely reasonable.
You just might be catching the future stars of Major League Baseball when you pay a visit to the Kane County Cougars.
