Given the choices for baseball lovers in the City of Chicago it is beyond any reason as to why anyone would want to make the trip to rundown Wrigley Field to watch the miserable Chicago Cubs play their unique brand of mistakes, flubs, fouls and losing that passes for National League baseball in this town.
Across town, nestled on the South Side, is U.S. Cellular field. A modern ballpark with ample parking, relatively clean restrooms and some of the best selections of food you can find or want in the city of Chicago or in a baseball park. Not to mention fantastic sound and a clear and brilliant Jumbo-tron in center field. There is also a great section for kids in left field called "Fundamentals." Not to mention the fact that the White Sox are 2005 World Series Champions and the play is infinitely better.
Still, for some reason people make their way to Wrigleyville. A worse neighborhood you are not likely to find. Parking is non-existent, literally. There is no official Wrigley Field parking lot. So, be prepared to pay about $20 for the luxury of parking in some local's garage and then walking eight blocks.
The stadium is literally crumbling. A couple seasons ago masonry fell from the ancient stadium. This is just the prelude to cramped seating with a potentially obstructed view. If you have to get up perhaps to make your way to one of the filthy restrooms to then go in a trough-style urinal you will find yourself unable to see the game from the walkway, unlike U.S. Cellular.
Essentially Wrigley Field is the world's largest beer garden. Most of the people will be talking on their cell phones or gawking at the drunks in the bleachers. Then of course you might just end up shot by angry drivers trying to get the hell out of Wrigleyville after the game.
This doesn't even speak of the deplorable and outright laughable level of baseball being played on the field. The Flubs are definitely NOT the team to follow if you want quality baseball.
Visit one of the suburban minor league teams or go watch championship baseball with the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Don't get scalped by the Cubs at one of their sanctioned ticket-scalping organizations (they call them "brokers") to sit in a horrible stadium well past its prime to watch pathetic baseball played on a sub-par level.
