The Hansen Center (named after local residents Xenon R. Hansen and his wife) is a licensed 20-bed emergency shelter care program for children who have been removed from their caretakers because of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. The primary focus of the program is to keep children safe, keep sibling groups intact and provide a nurturing environment. The program provides services for the Department of Children and Families, District 14 (Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties). Funding comes from the Department of Children and Families, the United Way of Central Florida, Inc., the Department of Education, and private contributions. Private funding is generated through individual and corporate contributions and special events. The program serves over 100 children annually.
Sebring is incredibly fortunate to have this world class residential and treatment center for children in its midst. We have taken Christmas and birthday presents to the children at The Hansen Center, so have seen the exquisite facility and superb staff at work.
