Real Calabash style is the ONLY way to go 4/6/2006

This restaurant was recommended to us by someone at the Marriott Hotel we stayed at in Myrtle Beach. While this restaurant is actually in Calabash, NC., it is only about a 20 minute drive from where we were staying. We wouldn't have ever known about it if we didn't ask, and am I glad we did. It is a small restaurant, off the main track, with only about 8 - 10 booths and 5 - 8 tables with some limited seating outside. You can either order at the window outside or go in, sit, and be waited on. Either way is good. My husband & I both ordered the (if I remember the name right) Admiral's Platter. It had 1 piece of fish (that covered, if not hung over, the length of the plate, shrimp, scallops, oysters (although we both substituted either more shrimp or scallops for these), cole slaw or salad, and hush puppies for $12.95. The food was lightly battered (meaning more food than batter), cooked just right, and you definitely had plenty of food for the money. We had so much we ended up taking half of both our plates back to the restaurant so I had a midnight snake later (Yummy). The only complaint I have is that it isn't in Michigan, but then you would not expect to get such freshness out of the seafood in Michigan. more
