Reeds is one of our favorite restaurants to go to for special occasions. The location itself is nothing to write home about -- it's located in a shopping center next to a dry cleaning place, a Ralphs, and a Chilis. However, the restaurant is a sort of Cal-French cuisine. The service is excellent, particularly if you are helped out by the manager Al. Al will also remember you if you are people who come in a couple of times and will always make a point of stopping by your table to say hello. It's a sort of small-town touch that often doesn't get practiced in Los Angeles.
The pear salad, mango salad, and house salads are all wonderful. The best entrees are the duck, filet mignon, chicken, and the veal. For dessert, the chocolate cheesecake is fantastic -- the vanilla and raspberry sauces are a great addition. Be sure to split it with someone else though because it's very rich!
If you're hesitant about spending what would amount to more than about $60 per person on a three course meal, try going on a special occasion like Valentine's Day. The prix-fixe menu on Valentine's Day is 3 courses and is only $50 per person (not including beverages).
