Small, but Interesting 1/1/2007

If you're planning to visit the library (sure to be popular after President Ford's death), be aware of a couple of things: 1) it is NOT right in the main part of the University of Michigan campus but rather is on the north campus and quite a distance from the main part (you must drive there), and 2) it is not the main museum (if you've visited other libraries, like Reagan of JFK where the library and museum are in one site, you'll be disappointed since the main museum site is in Grand Rapids). The library is small, but it is interesting. It has rotating exhibits, and the permanent collection offers a basic overview of Ford's life and legacy (of course there are interesting artifacts related to his football career at Univ. of Michigan). They do have frequent special events, lectures, etc., so it's worth checking out if anything special is happening and coordinating your visit that way. The library is free, and the staff is friendly and happy to answer questions. more
