This site of George Washington's homestead has been kept up immaculately. It is not too long of a drive from DC< but you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere once you arrive. THere is a shirt tour which is fairly interesting, but it is fun just to walk around the grounds by yourself, exploring all the nooks and crannies. It's amazing to stand in the expansive backyard and look out over the Potomac. It almost feels like you've stepped back in time! If you have kids, a picnic and then letting them run around in this scenic area is great fun!
