If you hate shopping and hate digging through racks, you will hate The Garment District. But if you have an hour or two to spare and some patience, you can find some incredible deals here. I skip Dollar a Pound now although it's an experience all its own to kneel in a huge pile of clothing and paw through it and pay for your picks by weight. And lots of the shoes are really mungy. But upstairs, I've outfitted myself for work with $8 blouses, kept warm with $7 sweaters, worn $12 Gap corduroy pants for years, and snagged a few $14 fancy vintage dresses the year I had three weddings to attend with all the same people. The place is a godsend if you want to look unique for less. The entire back room is vintage and it's a little overwhelming. Everything is organized by item (pants, sweaters) and color. For every ten dresses you'd never touch, there's one good one. There is also a small men's vintage section with lots and lots of shirts. Get on their email list (they won't spam you) and you'll be notified of the semiannual 50% off sale, usually in March and September, when they clear out seasonal stuff. The whole store is 50% off and if you never go at any other time, you'll win on these weekends. There's also hair dye, plastic costume jewelry, patches and a whole selection of wigs and other costumer wear.
