Roy's Kihei is located in the same strip mall as Safeway and Hilo Hatties. As far as locations go for Maui, it's just not pretty. There's no view, and the outside landscaping is pretty strip-mall-standard. We were especially surprised that Roy's didn't do anything to make their outside entrance appealing or even obvious.
But once you enter, you forget all about strip malls. The decor is lovely, and the clever bottom-up blinds mask the parking lot and frame the beautiful sky. We were greeted quickly and with smiles by the host staff, and we were whisked off to our table nearly immediately.
The service was excellent. Very attentive and yet not intrusive. One of our party ordered the tasting dinner, and the servers knew to how to time it all so our table didn't have anyone waiting around long.
We saw groups, couples, and families, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Small children had high chairs, and the good acoustics prevented problems with overall noise levels.
The food was good. Not spectacular, but really good. As with most fine restaurants on Maui, it was expensive compared to a similar restaurant in California. But prices should be considered reasonable here.
Can't really think of anything to suggest that they improve!
