My grandmother was recently hospitalized for pneumonia. She has dementia and the nursing staff was warned that she may try to wander about at night, and asked to please keep an eye on her and/or use bed restraints. This was not the first time they had seen my grandma, either, as she had been hospitalized about a year ago and wandered about so often that her room had to be changed to the room directly across from the nursing station.
However, the nurses did NOT keep an eye on her, nor did they restrain her, and my grandmother was found on the floor of the room across the hall from hers with a broken hip, an injury that she sustained from a fall caused by their negligence. She is 87 years old and had to undergo surgery that she should not have had to undergo if the staff had only done their jobs.
