When I was growing up, in northeast nebraska, -all- the cool alternative kids into punk and industrial (it was the '80's, natch...) would talk about going to Omaha to Drastic Plastic. Evidently, as the legend went in those days, they had -everything-. Things you couldn't even GET elsewhere. These were the pre-internet days, mind you, so finding a store like -that-, in -Nebraska-, was something pretty unusual. Sure enough, Drastic Plastic in the Old Market has just about ANYTHING for those who don't want to listen to the mainstream drivel. You won't find Brittany Spears here, but if you're looking for obscure German death metal hybrid techno...now, THAT you'll probably be able to find. DP recently expanded its space, so that all the usual CDs and magazines could give the vinyl and the band gear some room. It's nice to be in there now -- you don't have to worry about continually bumping into someone while looking for that rare Kraftwerk album you've been craving. Oh, sure, you could probably find it online these days. But the hunt is part of the thrill. And Drastic Plastic is the perfect hunting ground. more
