Lake County is a wealthy county North of Chicago. As the name suggests it is full of lakes. This is beautiful country, and they have used some of their funds righteously to create a great forest preserve system..
I am a native Chicagoan but have only lived in cook and dupage county until 6 months ago, when I moved up here to be near my daughter and grandsons.
In looking for a place where my grandsons could run wild, I discovered Independence Grove, right off of 137 with the entrance in Libertyville.
They loved it. Lakes to run around and boulders to climb on and hills to roll down and lots of birds to see and hear. We first came in the late fall when the color change was happening.
If you come in the summer there is a lake to swim and they are in the process of building a playground.
Lots of good times to be had here.
