I am an alum of Shimer so I will begin by admitting my partiality. But really folks, if you want a real education this is the college to consider.
Robert M. Hutchins, who was responsible in part for the curriculum in the better known University of Chicago, created the great books program. This is the basis for the Shimer program.
Using original sources instead of textbooks, small classes using the discussion method, you learn how to think at Shimer. This is participatory education at its finest.
As we speak, Shimer is contemplating a move to the IIT campus in Chicago. Whether they are there or still in Waukegan, consider Shimer for your college education.
