Beyond disappointed... 6/14/2011

I had surgery a couple of years ago as an adult to correct my strabismus. A colleague had it done and was seeing in 3D for the first time in his life. I couldn't wait to experience that, too! I was ensured by Dr. Lenart on multiple occasions that my misalignment would be completely corrected, at the very least least cosmetically, and we hoped I would achieve binocular fusion. Before my last appointment prior to surgery, I was wearing the correct strength of prism in my glasses, but felt wonky and slightly dizzy as my brain hadn't adjusted in the two weeks between appointments. I think this was partly also due to a slight vertical misalignment I had expressed to him but that wasn't addressed. Nonetheless, was reassured and I had my last appointment and was so excited for surgery! The evening after my surgery, I noticed that my eyes were still misaligned. In my follow up appointment, I was then told by Dr. Lenart that he decided to undercorrect!?!? He was concerned that I was having trouble with the final prisms, but did not discuss this decision with me at all. Not acceptable!! Three years later and I still have misalignment and double vision, it's just that my brain had to adjust to this new angle of double vision. If you want a doctor who will make decisions for your without discussing them and won't follow through on his promise, this is your guy! more
