A short drive from Boston, Westport Mass is a beautiful undeveloped seaside location. It is also home to a fantastic restaurant, the Back Eddy. The restaurant sits on a small spit of land and abuts a local marina. The location gets your juices flowing for fresh, local seafood, and the Back Eddy does not disappoint. The decor is fresh and open and liberally uses bright colors reminiscent of the Caribbean.
The restaurant focuses on supporting not just the local fishermen, but produce growers, cheese makers and breweries.
Their chowder was rich and sublime with a Portuguese influence, salads were fresh and varied and very generous portions. Seafood entrées were delectable. I had local New Bedford sea scallops broiled in an apple wood smoked bacon and the flavor combination was outstanding. The scallops were incredibly fresh, and done to perfection. The grilled swordfish was also outstanding.
I enjoyed a glass of the local Westport Rivers Winery's chardonnay.
Overall a great dining experience and a true vacation feel, even for a one day road trip!
