Black Friday at Target 11/28/2006

Yes, I was one of THOSE people, up at 4am and out the door. No make up on, my hair thrown up and looking just like most everyone else out there standing in the cold in a line that wrapped clear around the entire building. No I didn't stand out there all night or even for more than 15 minutes but I joined the line early on as they were letting people in the doors and caught some of those wild deals. Games that were normally $9, marked down to $3. People were already coming out with huge TV's in their arms before the entire line had even gotten inside. It was a madhouse but quite a well-oiled madhouse! Outside, police cars and security guards stood close. A manager stood near the crowd yelling (rudely) to customers as they approached that they would be going in single file and to go to the back of the line. I get crowd control. I get standing your ground. I don't get rudeness. I have to say, though, that once inside, I experienced nothing but helpfulness. Possibly every person working for Target was there that morning, greeting, directing, restocking quickly depleting shelves and bringing items to customers that just couldn't get down an aisle. The lines to checkout wrapped through the store but I got out in under a half an hour and the customers seemed relaxed, happy with their items and very friendly. We had an idea of what we were in for, shopping at that hour, so a line, and a long one at that, was inevitable. The service that we received once inside, that's what made the line seem to pass that much quicker. Strangers chatted about the sales, the deals they were getting, and walked out of the store, bags in hand, thrilled with their experience on the busiest shopping day of the year! more
