Dive at Your Peril in West Palm Beach 10/18/2005

The Scuba Club advertises itself as "The Best Damn Facility on the planet since 1972." They might have a very nice facility, but the service and safety leave a lot to be desired. The dive boats seem in good shape and newer. That isn't enough to make up for what appear to be young, inexperienced and insensitive crew. On the "test dive," there was a captain who couldn't have been more than 23 years old and one under 20 deck hand who didn't want to take his shoes off or get wet. Minimal assistance to divers was given, along with considerable attitude. One diver was forced to jump with a video camera because the deck hand wouldn't hand it down. No camera rinse. As for safety, how about diving across the shipping channel off West Palm Beach with 16 divers and one dive float with one divemaster? Not much fun for the divers who were left by the "divemaster." They were dumped on sand bottom and left to fend for themselves in 90 ft. of water with no divemaster or group in sight. Nor any fish or reef. The only plus to this outfit is the price. And you have the option of doing one tank dives. There are real safety issues and concerns with The Scuba Club. If you do decide to try them out, be sure you are fully loaded with whistles, safety sausage and up to date life insurance. more
