Great place to have a baby! 10/18/2005

I just had baby #4 at the Pavillion and they were great! I had to be admitted three weeks before I delivered and was very well taken care of. Someone comes around twice a day to ask you what you want to eat for meals and snacks. They have a social worker to talk to you if you get depressed about being stuck in the hospital. They have spiritual care people to address those needs. They have people who will come into your room for 5-10 minutes and play the harp. While I was there, they had massage therapy students who gave massages. The OB floors have small "kitchens" where hungry moms to be or new moms can help themselves to sandwiches, jello, yogurt, cereal, ice cream, pop, etc. I was able to have a newspaper delivered to my room each day. Each room is equipped with a tv and vcr. The rooms have a "hotel" look with laminate flooring, nice art work, and nice curtains. The nurses were great! They never made me feel like my kids were a bother when they came to see me. My baby ended up coming early and had to spend time in the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit). No one wants to leave their baby at the hospital when they go home but if they have to stay, it's a state of the art unit. Each baby has their own room which means parents can stay with their baby 24 hours a day. Parents are invited to the participate in the daily report on their baby. The nurses also leave the daily chart in the room at all times so parents can stay informed about things like food intake, temperature, weight, etc. There is a family lounge in the middle of the unit. It has a few couches, a few tables and chairs and a tv and vcr. It was a safe place to have a meal or sit with my other children. Everyone in the lounge is in the same situation. No one looks at your funny if the tears come. The rooms had chairs that folded into beds. The nurses did a good job at helping me feel like an important part of my baby's life. I recommend the Pavillion to anyone having a baby. more
