Fossil Rim is Fantastic! You drive through this huge animal preserve at your own pace. The different species have no qualms about coming up to your car and sticking their heads in through the window! Its amazing how close you can get to the Zebras, Giraffes, Llhamas....!
The scenic overlook is really a nice 1/2 way point. I always bring my own lunch and eat on the cliff where there is always a cool breeze blowing! There is also a Gift shop here with many unusual Gifts made by Local Artisans.
You can not turn around and "revisit" the drive....so take your time and really enjoy the drive. There is no time limit, so really use the 1/2 way point to stretch your legs, use the restroom and eat/drink something.
