The New Artist Village is FABULOUS! 9/17/2005

The Highlands Art League has opened an artist village on Lake Jackson, next to the Alan Altvater Cultural Complex which includes the Highlands Museum of the Arts, Highlands Little Theater, the County Library and the Historical Society. The Art League took four once gorgeous but dilapidated buildings which were scheduled for demolition and restored them to a unique beauty. From this mess the Art League has created a fine arts and craft gift shop, more classroom space, artist studios and gallery space which is for rent. They also hope to have some form of artist in residency program in the near future. This is a fabulously creative program wherein The Highlands Art League and the City of Sebring cooperated to create something beautiful out of an area that many people thought was ugly and worthless. The Highlands Art League also sponsors the fall Art Festival on the downtown circle. This is one of the top-rated art shows in the state and artisans from around the world present their creations at this festival. In addition to an impressive display of art, food vendors provide a variety of scrumptious delights sure to please any palate. more
