Back in 1977 I worked next door to the original Down to Earth, where I bought my first set of matching glasses for our dining table.
Down to Earth has moved around town several times, now having two locations. One is at the edge of downtown Eugene -- on Olive Street, near the post office -- the other location is on Willamette Street. Parking for both locations can be a pain, but the easier of the two is downtown.
The selection at the downtown store is much larger. This is a wonderful place to gift shop, and the garden section is truly a pleasure to browse through. It's an organic gardeners dream, and prices are very affordable. They have a good selection of region appropriate plants, trees - as well as annual and perennial flowers, vegetable starts & seeds.
Both shops offer a small selection of greeting cards. There are soaps, tea balls and other cooking gadgets, some children's toys, wind chimes and things like socks and gardening gloves. The stock leans toward the functional and durable, but lovely to use and live with. I always make it a point to check out the stores at gift-giving time.
Today, Down to Earth appears to still be going strong. And I am still using some of those same glasses!
