You pile into a big 4X4 with perfect strangers (well, they may not be perfect, but no one is stranger). You all share an interest in seeing nature's beauty up close. The driver / tour guide (usually a retiree) gives you a running documentary about the ecology, history and even a little Cape gossip..
These tours last about an hour with a couple of brief stops to walk the dunes and take pictures. It's a bit of a wild adventure for not a lot of money.
We have gone several times and each tour has been fun.
