Long Beach Skateland in Stratford near the Sikorsky airport has been around for as long as I can remember. It hasn't changed since I was a teen twenty years ago, and I think the skates they have are still the same after all these years! My son had a great time skating for the first time here, during a birthday party for a classmate. They are open on the weekends, and I believe that during the week you can rent out the place for parties. It's a little bit dumpy, but the kids all had a great time skating and falling!
