Old Hawaii 8/20/2005

On the Leeward side of the island, Hawaii's Plantation Village takes you back in time to the days of the sugar cane plantations. Unlike other "tourist" attractions, the village appeals to locals and visitors alike. For the former, it's the perfect place for first and future generations to visit. Ask almost any local and they can somehow trace their family's reason for being in Hawaii to sugar and the plantations. The village recreates these multi-ethnic plantation environments highlighting the uniqueness of each culture. It was great touring the village with my grandparents and hearing their own stories about many of the objects and exhibits. Many of the volunteer tour guides also grew up on the plantations, making the experience truly authentic. more
