Confessions of an East Coast Pizza Snob Part II 9/20/2005

Maybe i'm getting kinder as I get older, or maybe I'm being won over by atmosphere and people, or maybe my pizza memory is fading, but since the former two are enjoyable and the latter is impossible, i'm gonna say that I've just found some good pizza places out here after all. Maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places before...like under the West Seattle Bridge...which is where Stellar's Pizza is. Apparentely Stellar's used to be known as StellA's and that's what everyone in the know calls it. I didn't know, but it wouldn't have helped my 20 minute search any as I slowly circled in on the area. The key to finding Stellar's is simply knowing exactly where it is (Airport Road under the bridge) and getting good directions online. But the hunt is half the fun, right? Am I right?? Once inside Stellar's, the indie waiters and waitresses are extremely personable and helpful and the whole place has an intimate feeling while still being spacious enough to fit a table of eight confortably. Plus they have a great Jukebox waiting for your money. But who cares, right? We're here for pizza! While obviously not the only item on the list, pizza is the only item i've seen ordered besides beer, which is also pitchered out plentifully. The pizza itself is thick with loads of cheese, but does not come off tasting like fast food pizza (i.e. Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's.) They have a million toppings and pre-constructed ideas, so just try something new each time and find out what you like. Each visit will be worth it, and while it's a little pricier than Zeek's, a group of friends takes the edge off. more
