Once Morgantown's showcase theatre, the Metropolitan fell into disrepair and was close to demolition when a local group of concerned citizens and business people arranged its purchase over ten years ago. Since then, the Met has been through a roller coaster ride of changed management, grants acquired and lost, and start again, stop again construction and upgrade projects. Finally we might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Over the last year or so, the fantastic traditional theatre appears to be getting closer to completion on its renovation projects. Events such as live theatre, movies, holiday musicals, etc. are periodically gracing its stages, and attendees can readily see the progress being made to its beautiful plasterwork, seating and lobby area. Think the Benedum (Pittsburgh, PA) rework of a few years back on a smaller scale.
Once completed, it will be a showplace the town can be proud of.
