This is how you can tell real sushi fanatics from the wanna-bes... If they go to Ota's and order "Omakase", this is someone who has a discriminating pallet and knows their Sushi. If they try o order a California roll or spicy tuna, well.... If you sit at the bar (make sure to get ressies in advance!), and order the Omakase menu, you will never be dissappointed! The Chefs will ask you what you like and don't like, and then they'll put course after course in front of you. You'll have the best experience, and get the freshest, melt-in-your-mouth fish! Ota imports seasonal fish in from Japan, and they have LIVE Ama-ebi, not frozen, LIVE- you can't get fresher than that!
If you sit at a table, the service may be a little slow, they get really crowded. I've heard people complain from the tables before. I don't think I've ever seen anyone at the bar complain though. One thing, you really have to put those reservations in in advance, otherwise the regulars will have them. Also, another little tip, if you're sitting at the bar, you'll get the best service if you are the last seating 9 or 9:30. Then there's no pressure to turn over the table for the next seating, so you can take your time and enjoy the exquisite tastes!
