The PSO is a top notch orchestra that Pittsburgh is lucky to have. The musicians are of excellent caliber but there can be some variance as to how tight they sound depending on the conductor.
I recommend romantic and early 20th century pieces that take advantage of the full orchestra's sound in the spacious Heinz Hall. Classical era ensembles are best left to the cozier Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.
They are currently trying out a strange directorship-by-committee situation since the departure of Mariss Jansons.
