The state theater is located at 233 S. State Street in Ann Arbor, upstairs from an Urban Outfitters store. Alas, the location of the theater has forced some odd compromises- the seats would usually be where people are now buying teen clothes. So the seats of the State theatre are above the screens, in a series of geometrically challenged spaces.
However, the movies are good - usually independent, artsy or just plain good.
Midnight showing of cult classics, such as Rocky Horror, also take place throughout the year.
