Long the favorite caterer of Harvard seminars, Broadway has some of the nicest sandwiches anywhere. Rich mayonnaise, spicy mustard, and succulent roast beef, as well as freshly baked bread make boring academic talks somewhat tolerable. However, when poor graduate students-- and even junior faculty members-- have to spend their own money on the grocery there, they have to choose between the that nice looking croissant or the box of imported Belgium crackers.
