A Blast from the Past 6/2/2010

During a recent vacation back to my hometown area of Houston, Jean and I were looking for a traditional "mom and pop" country diner for breakfast. We were schedule to meet relatives in Liberty later that day, but needed some great breakfast to start the day. It seemed all we could find in the Humble area was "donut shops" and "Mexican food". Sorry! But I am not a "burrito for breakfast" guy. Give me some good old southern cooking and I can last the whole day. After miles of looking and a growling stomach, I broke the "guy code of ethics" and stopped at a retail shopping strip to ask the "locals" where they go to get great southern cooking for breakfast. One lady pointed to a Mexican restaurant on the corner of their lot and I simply smiled and said, "That is a little further SOUTH than I was think or hoping for." The store manager stepped up and shared, "Why not try the Star Cafe out on FM 2100?" I guess he could tell by the look on my face and the "Florida" t-shirt I was wearing, I was another of those tourists. We got directions and took off. Now every time we are in the area we know exactly where to go and what to order. The food is great, the location is not too far of the beaten path and the setting is rustic 50's Rock-N-Roll-Drive In Theater decor. There are years of movie star memorabilia on the walls and the waitresses are very friendly. Please stop by and visit them when you are in the area. Blessings, Pastor Tom <*)))))))>< more
