Miserable and Dishonest 5/11/2010

I have gone to this store several times. One one occasion, they sold me tefillin, that I later found out were not kosher. On another, they offered me mezuzot that were just photocopies and in now way acceptable. On a third trip, I tried to order a specific siddur and was assured that they would get it for me. I waited for months and got not only the wrong siddur, but a siddur with the pages printed out of order. My then fiancee wanted to get our ketubah through this Judaica store, so we ordered one. It came back unkosher and, as usual, no refunds were offered. I complained that the names weren't right, that I hadn't been given a chance to look it over before the final draft was made, that the text of the ketubah itself had been horribly modified from the standard text, etc. The owner replied, "If we allowed everyone who didn't like their ketubah to return it, we would have to take them all back." I think that statement says volumes. I suppose that if you want to buy a cookbook or something that requires no degree of honesty or expertise in Judaism, you could do so at this place. However, if you do so, keep in mind that you will be paying top dollar. For the amount of gouging that goes on, I'd really expect better customer service. more
