The Shelter Island Pier is a great place to spend a few hours. There is no need for a fishing license as long as you are fishing from the pier. You will see people catch any thing from Mackerel to shark. I have even caught an octopus off this pier. Even if the bait shop is closed, there is always someone who will be willing to share some bait with you. If you have a fishing pole and a few free hours.
