This place is a dream 9/29/2005

We have a five year old who simply isn't much interested in toys. We've been struggling for months to decide what to do for his birthday. After many tries, I walked him through a toy store where he latched on to a wonderful pirate set and begged for it. Elated, I noted it and we left. I went back in, and it was gone. We searched for weeks. My wife gave up. Enter Phillips' Toy Mart. I had been there before, but my wife, being new to town, hadn't heard of them. I sent her over. She arrived there as they opened. A nice old man met her at the door, saying "Go on in. We don't have the lights on yet, but look around!" She was amazed at the selection of things she found that we haven't seen anywhere in Nashville. In a few minutes, the old man asked what she was looking for. "Something for my five year old boy, he doesn't seem to play much," she said. The old man asked two or three simple questions, then said "I know just the thing." He then led her to the EXACT pirate toy set our son had picked out a month or so before. What's more, he was right- the boy *loves* it. The folks at the counter were equally helpful. My wife commented to one person there "You know, I know one old toy that you don't have- a Big Wheel!" The clerk said "You know, I haven't thought about them in years, you're right." Based on my experience with Phillips in the past, I bet the next time we go, if anyone still makes them, they'll have a Big Wheel. more
