On it's surface, the preschool and kindergarten programs offered through URI and local celebrity Alan Shawn Feinstein (his generous endowments have spawned all sorts of Chairman Mao-like portraits throughout the building) is a cheerful, busy, organized learning environment for precious little ones lucky enough to be granted one of the coveted scholarships. But parent beware: under its surface lurks a disorganized center, staffed with students desperate to make $10/hr and unsafe conditions for any child. Case in point: My son was enrolled there for less than a month before he sustained a concussion, vomited twice and then was placed into a 'quiet time' area until I arrived to pick him up. No one noticed his dilated pupils or connected the growing lump on his forehead with the vomiting. His teacher assured me she gave him "TLC" and went back to munching on her Cheetos while I examined him. Needless to say, it took less than 20 seconds for me to scoop him up and rush him to the ER, where he underwent an MRI to check for possible further damage. Luckily, he was fine and after several months of negotiations, they admitted fault and refunded my tuition money. Personally, I wouldn't enroll a rat there. more
