For some reason kids seem to love dinosaurs. If you have one of them then this is worth the trip (actually you're probably in Riverhead anyway). This place is for older, hard core dinosaur fans and is going to bore any little kids to tears. The information and exhibits are well presented and even know- it-alls will likely learn a few things. There are some interactive exhibits and a film is available but this is definitely focused more on education.
