Michigan's capitol has been completely restored and is absolutely beautiful. It is modeled after the US capitol with Dome and chambers of the legislature on each side. There are also offices of the Governor and former Supreme Court chambers. Tours start in the basement and are free. If you are from Michigan and the legislature is in session you can leave a note with one of the sergent-at-arms (red coats) for your representative or senator and then they will greet you from the floor of the legislature. Oh and be sure to stare up into the dome for at least five minutes, you will be amazed by what you see!
