as i was saying in the review of the santa clara location of this awesome, homegrown operation; many second generation korean-americans mistakingly think that the cuisine served here originates from korea or is maybe "korean-chinese." it's actually beijingnese food from northern china; but yes, it's the genre of chinese food that is most popular and most prevalent in korea. as i said earlier, one can think about how black bean sauce noodles in korea differs from the black bean sauce noodles found in taiwan; but in the end, they have some kind of common origin but demonstrate the concepts of version and variation. anyway, as i had said in my other review, my wife and i first discovered yeitnal jjajang (the real name of this restaurant, which means "old-fashion black bean sauce") in its original oakland/berkeley location. when we moved down to the silicon valley (america's _real_ heartland), we were kind of disappointed that we'd be leaving that restaurant behind. however, we were pleasantly surprised that the owners had opened up this cupertino location. yeitnal jjajang, as far as i know, has several locations: 1) oakland/berkeley, 2) san francisco, 3) cupertino, and 4) santa clara. who knows where they'll expand next, but they've got great food at a great price with great service. this restaurant is most loved for its jjajangmyuhn (black bean sauce noodles) and jjambbong (spicy seafood soup noodles). they have other great "korean-chinese" favourites as well, such as kkangpoong saewoo (garlic sauce, deep-fried shrimp) and various mandoo (potstickers) and various fried rice dishes. as you see, you can get really casual food here, and it's great. i mean, think of it as a good alternative to fast food... but well, it's classier than _that_! this particular location, the cupertino one, is unique in that they also serve pizza here. you can even get kimchi pizza. in case you're totally clueless on korean cuisine, kimchi is a famous korean pickled cabbage dish. this location has a little bit of outodoor seating, but i worry about sharing that information because i already have a hard time fighting with smoking ajuhssi (older men) for those seats without having to fight with you. ;-) heh, anyway, enjoy! p.s. this location has a t.v. as well as nice music. in case you don't know, korean pop music is really good these days. more
