Minor League Baseball at its best! 8/14/2005

The Altoona Curve debuted in 1999 and has been one of the most positive additions to this region in many years. I personally attend between 15-20 games a year and love it! The Blair County Ballpark is one of the finest parks in all of the minor leagues. It's red brick facade and old time wooden roller coaster just past the right field fence gives the ballpark a distinct "retro" feel - in fact it was designed by the same architectural firm that designed Camden Yards in Baltimore which began the trend of "retro" ballparks. The team is the AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates and many current major leaguers have spent time in Altoona. The team is very well supported by the community. Every game is well attended by enthusiastic and knowledgeable baseball fans. The food is very good and plentiful. My favorite is the large and tasty Curve burger with bbq sauce, but there are many options that go beyond typical ballpark food. As with most minor league franchises, there are usually interesting promotions at each game, ranging from giveaways to fireworks to fun gimmicks such as "Awful Night". Tickets are very reasonably priced and range from $4 to $12. The Altoona Curve is probably the #1 family activity in the region. I HIGHLY recommend it! more
