Not as good as when it was Underground 11/4/2005

Takoma Underground recently moved out of the basement and across the street, and with the move it has seemed to have lost some of the charm, too. I used to be able to spend hours in the old one, rummaging through old books, clothes, vintage gloves and a great collection of sterling silver jewelry. The new one seems to have about half as much stuff, and there is something about the daylight creeping into the windows that makes it less of a treat to visit. There still is a lot of good, hip stuff to find. A lot of dresses and accessories from the 40-60ish time periods, as well as a few one-of-a-kind collectibles. I still love the jewelry, which are mostly simple and nicely priced. The stuff is always in good condition, which means that prices are a higher than you'd find at a thrift store, but you'd expect them to be. more
