This zoo is truly wonderful. Unlike most zoos, the Austin zoo only keeps animals that were previously in captivity and/or mistreated and have no way now to adapt to the wild anymore. It's basically a rescue mission for these animals. There's a great petting zoo, where you can feed the animals as well. There's a train that goes around the zoo, and each animal has a name and a history posted near it's location. The signs tell you where the animal came from (i.e.--where it was rescued from), admission is very inexpensive, and it's out in the country. Definitely worth the trip!
