Temporarily disconnect and relocate A/C Condenser 11/20/2017

I needed to have the A/C Condenser disconnected and moved out of the way while some other work was being done. It took 2 weeks to get someone to the house, which I'll concede is better than some others that didn't even return my phone call. The guy shows up and quotes me $1000 to disconnect and move it about 10-12 feet, and another $1000 to come back later to reconnect when the other work was done. I questioned the price, but was told it had to do with regulatory requirements for recycling the coolant. Not wanting to wait another 2 weeks to get another company to quote, I reluctantly agreed. It took less than an hour to do the job. And he told me that he was able to contain the coolant within the system, so I still don't understand the regulatory component in the price. The technician was nice enough; but he spent more time sitting in the truck preparing a proposal to sell me a new condenser and a service plan than performing the work I was paying for. Overcharged big time. more
