I am a hard working guy that works in the engineering field for an automotive company but in 2009 I had a psychotic break. I was suffering from Schizophrenia. I had visual and audio hallucinations. It was so bad that I called my brother and he decided to pick me up and take me to his house to spend the night. He didn't know what to do with me so he took me to the police station. The police sent me to Harbor Oaks Hospital. I got an ambulance ride there. I saw the psychiatrist once a day and they had group counseling with other patients and a psychologist throughout the day. A chance to go to gym class once a day as well as an art class. We played volleyball and other group sports in the gym. You weren't forced to go to any of the sessions but they recommended that you go. I enjoyed socializing with the other patients. There was a lounge with couches that the patients could go to talk or read and a TV room. I only went to the TV room to watch the news. I spent most of my time in the lounge or going to the group sessions. The food was great. They served us in a cafeteria setting with all the pop you can drink. I asked for someone to wake me up every morning so I wouldn't miss breakfast and they did. They gave us a chance at night to get snacks out of the snack machine after dinner and get pop. There was 3 phones that your loved ones could call in on. Someone would chase you down if you had a phone call or you could call out on them. The nursing staff was very friendly and seemed to care about the patients. The nurse that handed out medicine every night jokingly called me ""Bob Seger"". I thought it was cute. I was stabilized in a week and stayed for about 2 weeks. I wanted to get back home to pay bills and such. There was 2 patients to a room but my first week I was by myself. It was a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to everyone with problems. more
