In the parent meeting for Xcel it was made clear Splitz ‘was very reluctant to start an Xcel program’. We should have left right then! The Xcel coaches seemed to be the least experienced on the staff and certainly didn’t know how to train and motivate the gymnast’s. One of the coaches actually left the girls alone during practice when sheran out to get food. In addition, verbal abuse made several girls cry by the end of practice and discussion between parents and gym ownership yielded no visible changes in behavior. Meet scores were consistently below competing gymnasts, specifically on the floor exercise where the Xcel coaches developed the girls routines. Our daughter left Split mid-season and, as an indication of the poor coaching, her scores increased on floor from an 8.8 at Splitz to a 9.5 at her new gym with only a week to learn an entirely new routine. You lack of commitment to the program, while accepting $$$ is appalling. In the future, go big or go home. If you’re not committed, then don’t waste peoples time!
