I received a call from the Grove City, Ohio Police Department to retrieve my grandson from the Skate America at 1:30 AM as he was a guest in an all night skating event last night. I proceeded to the facility to pick him up along with two of his friends. Shortly after my arrival (and the Police finally releasing my grandson to me), I placed a phone call to Cara and she passed the phone to John Burke, an acting Manager who was the person who actually had the altercation with my grandson and the person who called the Police. \r
John Burke explained to me that he was trying to ""enforce a policy"" with my grandson and his friends that ""no one was permitted on the carpeted area WITHOUT their skates on""; even if they are changing from skates to shoes in preparation to leave the facility. John Burke admitted engaging in an verbal altercation with my grandson to the point where they were yelling at each other about the new policy. John Burke proceeded to call the Grove City Police Department whereas the officers removed my grandson from the skating facility, performed a physical search on him and his belongings and placed him in the back of their police cruiser until I arrived. I asked Cara if she had witnessed the event and she advised that she did not. I am heading to the Grove City Police Department after work today to discuss this matter with them and on last and final note, both my grandson's have been going to Skate America for the past 10-12 years. This is the first time I have ever had a situation at this facility and although Michael was not banned from the facility, I now have concerns about his safety in relation to the adult staff and their behaviors towards youth who are paying guests.
