I am currently a junior at Soka University of America, and I like this university because it offers great opportunities for students to build a close relationship with their professors. Because this is a small liberal arts college with only 450 students in total, the size of a class is usually very small, like average 12 students in class. Therefore, a professor can know about each student, give them reflections on their quizes or essays every time, help them improve their studies and think about their future plan together. Because of these close interaction with professors, I think students can get encouraged timely and make a great progress in learning. As an international student, who have had a difficulty of learning in English, I truly appreciate each professor’s support, by which I am able to make sure that I understand the course content each time. Particularly, office hours and reflections on my work help me improve my understanding and critical thinking skills. Sometimes I go to my professors to talk about my future plan, concerns for the class and even very personal concerns about life in general. Each time I go to them, they listen to me and give me a direction or advice, which always makes me feel inspired or at ease. I believe that this kind of close interaction with professors is possible at a small university, like Soka. Although learning is not easy at all because we face something we do not know and try to expand our capacity, I feel I can do it and the process of learning will be wonderful because of my professors here.
